V.E. Whitehurst & Sons, Inc. is seeking an Experienced Asphalt Paving Foreman.
Qualified candidates will need have the ability to effectively manage and lead an asphalt paving crew, while providing overall, on-site leadership on asphalt paving projects.
Potential work areas include Levy, Alachua, Marion, Bradford, Union, and Columbia Counties.

  • US Work Authorization (Required)
  • This is not an entry-level position: Three to Five Years, or more of industry-related experience, with
    a focus on asphalt paving of roads and highways as an Asphalt Paving Foreman. (Required)
  • Required knowledge of road construction methods, road construction materials, and industry
    requirements (Required)
  • FDOT Experience (Required)
  • Strong and Effective Leadership and Management Skills (Required)
  • Basic Computer Skills (required)

Full Job Description:

  • This is an active foreman position.
  • Have the ability and be required to operate all equipment necessary for the paving operation.
  • Effectively manage and lead an asphalt paving crew.
  • Provides overall, on-site leadership on asphalt paving projects.
  • Ensure all work is completed according to quality and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to, operate heavy equipment.
  • Observe asphalt and subgrade to determine potential quality control issues and apply necessary corrections. Specifically, identifying segregation, drainage issues, densities, and other quality concerns of the job.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of all workers engaged in asphalt paving.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of all, but not limited to, subcontractors, inspectors, and FDOT officials.
  • Provides leadership, direction, training, and assistance to the assigned asphalt crew.
  • Inspects job sites to establish progress in meeting time schedules, to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment.
  • Measures slope and material thickness to verify compliance with contracts and to supervise the job.
  • Communicates daily with Project Manager and/or Project Superintendent to discuss schedule and production needs.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, and crew performance.
  • Maintains time and materials records as necessary, and submitted within the deadline given.
  • Ensures the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with job.
  • Responsible for safe work environments and complying with state, federal, and OSHA safety standards.
  • Adhere to processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform incidental work items and duties within other crafts, as assigned.
  • Night work and/or weekend work possible.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform manual labor incidental to the assigned task.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to walk frequently on uneven surfaces, exposed to varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to frequently ascend or descend ladders, and stairs using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to climb, bend, stoop, and squat frequently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and management.
  • Ability to work long hours out-of-doors, in changing environmental/weather conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, writing, and vision skills.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, such as hearing protectors, steel toe boots, and other safety items as necessary.
  • Ability to perform basic computer skills to complete forms digitally.
