Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION
The supervision of asphalt construction including interfacing with the owner or agent, scheduling crews and subcontractors, communicating with the Project Managers and Project Superintendents regarding scheduling, and giving timely and accurate reports of progress to all interested parties.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Asphalt Paving Superintendent directly reports to, and is accountable to, the Asphalt Manager.

REQUIREMENTS:
A. EDUCATION
Minimum qualifications are ten years of experience in asphalt paving.

B. LICENSING/REGISTRATIONS
Required:
Preferred: Traffic Control Supervisor Certification.
Asphalt Paving Level 1 & 2

C. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
1. Leadership and negotiating skills.
2. The uses of conversational, analytical and observational skills, which demonstrate an ability to organize, control and manage all areas of asphalt operations for the road construction industry.
3. Knowledge of materials, equipment, methods and techniques used in road construction.
4. Knowledge of possible defects and faults in work and of stages where such faults and defects are most readily ascertained.
5. Ability to understand and interpret terms and specifications of contracts.
6. Ability to conduct effective inspections in determining contract compliance.
7. Ability to calculate figures and mathematical concepts.
8. Ability to utilize Microsoft Outlook for email correspondence.

D. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Note: The following duties are descriptive and not exhaustive. The omission of specific

or a logical assignment to the position. Major duties include the following:

1. Supervision and participation in securing compliance that contract work meets contract specifications.
2. The accurate take-off of quantities and the determination of material requirements from asphalt plans and specifications.
3. The preparation of detailed resource requirements from the quantity take-offs and specification.
4. Coordination of paving subcontractors on jobs and maintenance of subcontractor progress.
5. Support in the preparation and submittal to owners or general contractors of schedules, material sources, claims, invoices, or any other required paperwork.
6. Leadership in the preparation of pre-pave plans and ensuring the implementation of those plans with Project Supers and Foreman.
7. Coordinate with other Areas within Ajax on shared equipment, upcoming AMG (Automated Machine Guidance) needs, and the sharing of crews.
8. Knowledge of work orders / budget on projects and ensuring plans are in place to meet or exceed expectations.

E. SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL
1. Enforce and adhere to all rules listed in the Ajax handbook.
2. Insure all Ajax quality standards are met.
3. Insure adherence to all federal, state, local and Ajax Safety and Environmental rules and regulations.

F. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Asphalt operations on the roadway.
Ability to work days, nights and weekends as required.

G. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The essential functions of this position includes sitting, standing, stooping, walking, climbing, reaching, bending, twisting, trunk movements, lifting minimum of 45 lbs., carrying, pushing/pulling, low level work, dexterity of hands and fingers, seeing, hearing and talking.

1. Reporting to work on time, after lunch, and not leaving early unless authorized.
2. Always providing proper notification and advance notice of absence.
3. Not abusing or taking advantage of personal days off.
4. Maintaining work area in a neat and orderly manner.
5. Performing such other duties as may be required.
