General Summary:
Erects, repairs, demolishes, grades, and maintains structures by performing the following:

Essential Duties:
Performs a variety of tasks on construction projects, often working in a utility capacity and shifting between duties as needed without close supervision. Responsibilities may include:

  • Measuring distances from grade stakes, driving stakes, and stretching tight lines

  • Bolting, nailing, aligning, and blocking up under forms

  • Loading, transporting, unloading, and furnishing craft workers with materials

  • Leveling earth to fine grade specifications using pick or shovel

  • Mixing concrete and dismantling forms

  • Positioning, joining, aligning, and sealing pipe sections

  • Erecting and dismantling shoring and braces

  • Carrying and holding building materials, tools, and supplies

  • Safety: Work safely, promote our safety culture, protect coworkers and the public, and report safety concerns to any supervisor at any time.

  • Tools and/or Equipment: Use of picks, shovels, hand tools, hammers, and other related equipment.

  • Building Codes and Design Requirements: Not applicable.

Normally Expected Education and/or Practical Experience:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED; completion of an apprenticeship program or equivalent related experience/training.

  • Mathematics: Ability to evaluate information using measurable standards; basic knowledge of math, geometry, volume, and weights.

  • Reading, Writing, and Communication Skills: Must effectively communicate verbally with coworkers and work positively with others. Ability to read safety rules and instructions for equipment and tool usage. Must recognize and use proper hand signals for cranes and other machinery.

  • Problem Solving: Must follow specific instructions, maintain accuracy, and perform repeated tasks following set procedures.

  • Other: Adherence to all safety regulations and the ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with others is required at all times.

Physical Demands:
This role involves physical activities requiring full-body movement, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. Extended periods of standing are expected. Protective equipment such as safety shoes, gloves, glasses, and hard hats must be worn.
Regularly required to:

  • Stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects/tools

  • Reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • Talk and hear frequently

  • Occasionally sit

  • Lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
    Visual requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions:
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions is frequent, including extreme cold and heat, wet and/or humid environments. The job also involves:

  • Working around moving mechanical parts

  • Operating in high or precarious places

  • Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and vibration

  • A loud work environment
