Job Description

Position Summary

The Bridge Steel Worker (Ironworker) is responsible for assembling, erecting, and securing structural steel components for bridge construction projects. This role involves working at heights and ensuring the structural integrity of steel frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Erect and install steel beams, girders, and structural components
  • Bolt, weld, and secure steel in accordance with specifications
  • Connect steel components using rigging, cranes, and hoisting equipment
  • Read and interpret structural drawings and plans
  • Align and fit steel components for proper installation
  • Perform rigging and signaling during lifts
  • Work safely at heights using proper fall protection systems
  • Follow all OSHA and site safety requirements

Qualifications

  • Experience in structural steel or ironwork (bridge/heavy civil preferred)
  • Knowledge of rigging, signaling, and steel erection
  • Ability to read blueprints and structural drawings
  • Comfortable working at heights

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with FDOT bridge projects
  • Welding certifications (if applicable)
  • Knowledge of crane operations and load control

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs
  • Work at heights and in outdoor conditions
  • Strong balance, coordination, and physical endurance
