Job Description
Position Summary:
The Bridge Carpenter performs skilled work in the construction, repair, and maintenance of bridge structures. This role focuses on building and installing forms for concrete, as well as supporting structural components on road and bridge projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Construct and install formwork for concrete bridge components (footings, columns, decks)
- Measure, cut, and assemble wood and metal forms
- Assist with concrete placement and finishing support
- Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings
- Install and remove falsework and temporary structures
- Ensure proper alignment, leveling, and bracing of forms
- Operate hand and power tools safely
- Follow all safety regulations and OSHA standards
Qualifications
- Experience in concrete formwork or carpentry (bridge or heavy civil preferred)
- Ability to read construction plans and measurements
- Familiarity with tools and equipment used in carpentry
- Strong attention to detail and safety
- Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions
Preferred Skills
- Experience on FDOT or heavy highway projects
- Knowledge of bridge construction processes
- Ability to work in a team environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs
- Climb, bend, kneel, and work at heights
- Stand for extended periods
