Job Description

Laborers will perform tasks involving physical labor on road construction projects. Laborers will clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards, may assist other craft workers, and perform other labor-related duties as instructed by the supervisor. This job summary is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by people assigned to this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy/highway construction projects.
• Work site set up, maintenance, and cleanup.
• Load, unload, or distribute materials, machinery, or tools to and from designated locations.
• Direct traffic at or near building sites and carry out other traffic management activities.
• Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth.
• Use picks, shovels, and rakes to level earth, concrete, or asphalt to grade specifications.
• Position or dismantle forms for pouring concrete, using saws, hammers, nails, or bolts.
• Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials.
• Assist craft workers.
• Measure, mark, or record openings or distances as part of site preparation
• May be called upon to operate a variety of power and hand tools: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, mechanical hoists, surveying, measuring and other equipment.
• Maintain clean work area by disposing of trash and debris properly.
• Promote and adhere to the company’s safety program.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment such as hand tools, power tools and motorized equipment.
• Ability to listen, follow directions, and have a willingness to continue to enhance skills.
• Able to communicate effectively with jobsite supervisor and co-workers.
• General knowledge of road construction processes.
• Demonstrate a safety-first attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures.
• Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.

Job Requirements

Requirements
• Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary.
• Must have reliable transportation, and ability to travel to assigned worksites.
• Education / Experience:
• High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
• One (1) year experience working as general laborer, or equivalent experience.
• Active Driver’s license
